About

TasWater, a utilities company in Tasmania, is responsible for providing drinking water across the state as well as collecting and treating sewage. With over 1,500 contractors and 300 sites, efficient and safe operations are a non-negotiable.

The challenge

Prior to implementing Rapid, TasWater relied on a paper-based system for inductions.

That brought numerous challenges from lost paperwork to a lack of record-keeping and not knowing who was entering or leaving our sites.

As they navigated the additional challenges introduced by the Covid-19 pandemic, the company sought an advanced digital solution to ensure the safety of their sites, starting their journey with Rapid in 2021.

The solution

TasWater implemented Rapid Contractor Management, Rapid Access and Rapid Induct as a total and integrated workforce compliance management solution.

Now, if a vendor company is found to be non-compliant, the system will automatically prevent them from entering the site. TasWater has taken this further by including the vendor’s accounts payable details in the system and found it very effective in maintaining compliance.

With Rapid, there is now a real urgency for suppliers to comply and update their documents and inductions to ensure they can get the job done on time.

The results

The transition to Rapid’s digital solution brought remarkable improvements in efficiency and compliance. The paperless process allows TasWater to integrate everything from company level down to individual workers. With Rapid, there is a clear record of who is on site and who isn’t, and whether they are compliant.

Now we have Rapid, we can check discrepancies. Such as workers claiming to be on site when they clearly aren't. Having digital records to validate these claims has been very helpful.

Expectations for the future are high, with the hope to onboard all 1500 contractors to Rapid and further improve their overall compliance. Touching on the challenge of adapting to an aging contractor workforce uncomfortable with technology, Nadine said, “We acknowledge the struggle and resistance some contractors may have with technology like this. However, as the system is so user-friendly we are sure this will be overcome.”

Nadine further praised Rapid’s user-friendly technology, robust reporting, and interconnectivity across departments.

The ongoing relationship between TasWater and Rapid is shaping a promising future as our company continues to modernise and improve its processes pointing to the growing importance of digital transformation in today's utilities industry.
