About
The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) plays a significant role in live sports, entertainment, and culture. Besides actively managing and maintaining the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the MCC is a vital place for both community engagement and sports. Operating in a dual capacity, it caters to over 100,000 patrons on event days and provides a broad range of activities 7 days a week to its 160,000 members on non-event days. Â
Activities include corporate functions, guided tours, the Australian Sports Museum, and operations across five external sites in Melbourne. The MCC also oversees 14 sporting section clubs, ensuring the MCG remains a hub for sport and community engagement year-round. Â
The challenge
Before the collaboration with Rapid, the MCC utilised another provider for contractor management. Over time, the unsuitability of this provider to MCC’s unique requirements and the lack of support prompted the MCC to look for a better solution. The primary challenge was the lack of a streamlined and efficient system to capture all business activities, leading to low adoption and compliance levels.Â
Rapid worked closely with the MCC from the outset to ensure its system was tailored to our needs. Since implementation, any identified refinements have been promptly addressed, ensuring a fit-for-purpose, user-friendly contractor management system that enhances compliance and efficiency.

The solution
Rapid, in coordination with the MCC, tailored a contractor management system best suited to the MCC’s needs. The revamped system has significantly enhanced compliance and operational efficiency. Using Rapid’s flexible sign in options such as QR codes has also served as a valuable tool for managing transient contractors during large events.Â
Upon Rapid’s implementation, the MCC experienced the benefits of a centralised and streamlined approach that tremendously eased reporting, analysis, and compliance monitoring tasks. It offered a cohesive platform that avoided the inefficiencies associated with disjointed systems.Â
The centralised approach simplifies reporting, analysis, and compliance monitoring, making it easier for both the safety team and operational staff to manage data effectively. Using one platform prevents the inefficiencies that come with multiple, disconnected systems, improving usability, consistency, and response times.
The results
Direct comparison with the past is challenging due to the lack of an integrated online system. However, since January 2023, the MCC has witnessed substantial improvements in multiple areas.Â
The implementation of Rapid’s Contractor Management has increased compliance with inductions and more insightful safety interactions. With Incident Reporting, the MCC has recorded 2,324 reports encompassing safety notifications, hazards, and resilience-related issues. Reporting and documenting each incident has strengthened the response and follow-up actions. Rapid Access provides the flexibility to align with other safety management processes, opening avenues for scalable safety compliance.Â
Rapid's Contractor Management has increased compliance with inductions and tracking of contractor interactions, allowing for more targeted safety discussions.
For better on-the-spot incident reporting, Event Safety Officers utilise Rapid’s mobile apps on iPads, allowing real-time logging and tracking of incidents. It allows the staff to capture photos and details promptly, enabling a more streamlined follow-up process with all information uploaded directly into a central report.Â
The most beneficial features of Rapid Incident Reporting are the ability to log, track, and analyse incidents in a central system providing clear visibility of emerging trends and risk areas. This data-driven approach strengthens preventative safety measures and operational decision-making.
Looking ahead, MCC views Rapid’s comprehensive safety management system as a significant asset for their operations. Furthermore, Rapid’s API facilitated a Power BI dashboard development, allowing for powerful, customised data analysis.Â
Whether addressing market trends or adapting to industrial evolution, the MCC is confident that its partnership with Rapid will continue to enhance efficiency, streamline processes, and drive safety-related improvements through effective contractor management. MCC’s partnership with Rapid has significantly improved operations, strengthened safety standards and fostered improved compliance through an integrated and digital approach.Â
