About

St Joseph’s House is a modern aged care community providing residential aged care including dementia respite and palliative care services. Conveniently located in the heart of bustling Port Pirie, St Joseph’s House provides a welcoming, homely environment for its aged care residents. Having a strong connection to the local community, St Joseph’s House fosters a multi-cultural warmness that gives residents from any background a sense of belonging and comfort.

The challenge

Like all aged care businesses, the pandemic was a catalyst for reviewing internal health and safety processes to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents. Capturing an accurate record of visitors was more important than ever, however existing processes were cumbersome, prone to error and time consuming such as the need to screen for body temperature and maintain visitor logbooks and clean pens. To reduce the administrative burden and improve efficiencies, St Joseph’s House wanted to move from paper to digital and automate things to maintain its excellent care for residents.

The solution

To digitise the sign-in process and automatically screen for body temperature, St Joseph’s House setup Rapid Aware’s Doorkeeper with the Bluetooth thermometer integration. Different types of surveys were created for contractors and visitors with alarms configured to notify staff of a visitor’s arrival or if someone was stopped for any reason, such as a high temperature.

With all the sign-in data including survey answers available within the Rapid Aware web and mobile apps, the business could run a contact tracing report at any time it was required.

The results

With Rapid Aware completely automating the sign-in process including temperature checks, St Joseph’s House has been able to save time and reduce the administrative costs of managing visitors.

With a digital record of who has visited, it’s easy to pull contact tracing reports if needed and know who is on site in real time for site security.

“There was some hesitancy at first as no one likes change, however most of our visitors enjoy using Doorkeeper to sign in,” Morgan – Administration Assistant at St Joseph’s House.

“Its great to see that some of our older clientele 70+ get a real kick out of using the system. Overall, it is well received.”
